Today I want to take a second to acknowledge aliens. Aliens have had an important impact on one of the decisions I’ve recently made. It is a very random thought that I am diving into right now, but it is somehow significant, too.
Aliens have been talked about, a lot. These past two weeks, my usual talks with my friends have revolved around it. I have touched it with some of my students. It’s here and there, and there’s always a reminder of aliens during the day.
Aliens are out of my comfort zone. I don’t speak about aliens. I don’t know very much about them. I’m beginning to see the importance of living communication in a different way, though. And aliens will be the perfect topic to get better at communication. This realization took me places this week.
What I’m trying to say is, communication doesn’t have to be a problem when you don’t have a good grasp on the topic being discussed. Does it? I found myself thinking how I had found myself thinking so many times that I was not ready to meet certain expectations. I had expectations about my communication, assuming that people were going to have expectations of their own. It hit me again that there are certain books one needs to read earlier in life.
So, I decided that I am going to learn about aliens, and I am still going to be able to have solid talks. I’d love to write about what happens, and to give practical advice on what I consider best practices. Let’s see how this goes, this being my HOW-TOs on having decent conversations when we know little about a topic, and I hope it will go great.
